The "Why" of Maggie Minor Designs

So like most entrepreneurs I've been struggling with how to convey what I do on my website. I was describing the how (i.e. I make the sculpture from buncombe white clay and glaze, etc) and talking about the kinds of feelings that my organic sculpture convey to people.

But them on Saturday I watch the below Ted talk by Simon Sinek called "How great leaders inspire action." It's not only about leaders, but about why the "why" of your business is so paramount to success. It made me rethink everything.

What came next surprised and didn't surprise me. I really thought about what really drives me to create art, what makes me happy, what makes me unhappy, and how I want my life and business to look in the future.

Four simple words came out, "Learn. Create. Share Possibilities." I realized what drives me is possibilities. I love to see what's possible in sculpture, in life, in travel, in people...I want to know what's next and what's unexpected. I'm an out of the box thinkers so I'm not really interested in what is expected. I'm interested in what's possible.

And because I'm interested in what's possible, I am an avid learner. I am constantly thinking and exploring new sculpting and glazing techniques. More importantly I am always watching videos and reading books on ways to expand my thinking and accept my intuition more fully - because I firmly believe that this is the main driver of creativity.

Meanwhile, the concept of giving more has been in the back of my mind. Giving gives you purpose and makes you feel more alive and it's been missing from my life in the last couple of years. I had forgotten what I have to give. So after watching this video, I realized that the most important thing I have to give is the gift of "possibility." I have the gift to inspire people to see possibilities, to feel possibilities, and to live new possibilities.

So watch out. The coming months are going to see a lot of changes at Maggie Minor Designs. I'm going to be sharing more of what inspires me as an artist, an entrepreneur, and as a person through blog posts and videos. To get weekly updates, sign up for my blog updates below.
