How to Make your Industrial Loft Beautiful with Oversized Artwork

How Oversized Artwork can add beauty and dimension to any Industrial Loft Apartment

Industrial lofts are often fabulous spaces with their textured concrete walls and chrome lighting. Some of my favorite restoration projects are old warehouses converted to useful space after years of neglect.

In my hometown of Durham, North Carolina, I grew up driving past abandoned or barely used brick tobacco warehouses on a regular basis. Their neglect was especially poignant to me since my grandfather had once owned one and served as an auctioneer in many others. Today, however, the great majority of them have been converted into a beautiful mini-city with restaurants, businesses, hotels, and apartments. Seeing this makes me very very happy.

The Challenge of Decorating an Industrial Loft Apartment

But once they've been converted, the inhabitants face another challenge - decorating them!

For example...my brother owned a converted industrial loft in mid-town Atlanta for many years and we'd spend hours discussing how he could decorate it. You see the concrete walls posed quite a problem. You couldn't really paint them, nor did you really want to, but with a complete lack of color accents the apartment was grey and a little depressing.

Using Oversized Artwork to Bright Up a Loft

As a result, I've been a little obsessed with decorating large walls with little to no color options for the past decade. So when I designed my first abstract canvas print, I immediately started to research how I could get them in an oversized version. At first there didn't seem to be that many options, but then miraculously my prints started making square 56'' x 56'' prints and 45'' x 60'' rectangular prints.

Picking the Right Colors for your Industrial Loft

Once they're hung you'll quickly find that your grey walls have life! You just have to figure out what kind of colors you want in your industrial space. Browns and whites always go well. See the two large abstract canvas prints on the far left and right below. However, I tend to prefer a dash of color. The square canvas print in the middle brings out the darker tones of space while bringing in a dash of color.

Brightening Up to your Modern Loft Apartment

You could also go a complete different direction, and really make a statement with bright color as pictures below. Personally, this is generally my preference, but I love color in a living room! But I fully accept that this may not be for everyone:) Scroll down for more options..

Abstract Canvas Artwork Bring out Texture

Another option is to go for the multi-colored look as pictured below. These prints resemble an abstract painting in person have an almost three dimensional quality. Many people when they first see them in person ask to touch them to make sure that they actually are flat. Because of this,tThey compliment the texture of the cement walls making you want to touch the walls every time you walk past.
