How to Create a Cheerful Reading Nook with Colorful Artwork

If you just bought your first house or you have a blank space on your home that has been calling to you for a colorful modern reading nook, then this post is for you.

If you're like me and you love to read and would absolutely love to have a dedicated space check out the below two complete nook designs. I designed them for any space size really but they're ideal for sizes that are about 4' x 6'. However, if you have a smaller space, you can just pick a few pieces and it would look just as good.

Thoughts about this Cheerful Reading Nook with Colorful Artwork

For the first nook, I choose two barrel style white chairs....one with an ottoman and one without. In my mind I see them catercorner with the ottoman available for sharing. I then paired it with this tall wooden floor lamp to bring an organic element into the space. Then I choose one of my abstract canvas prints. This orange and white print with red accents has wonderful organic elements and would look fabulous in an oversized size behind one or both of the chairs.

To continue the organic theme, I chose on of my own gold contemporary ceramic sculptures to be placed on a side table in between the chairs.

I then chose this simple yet dramatically designed floor lamp to be placed far behind the chair and angled over it for reading. To compliment the blues, I chose a grey jute rug with beige accents. Lastly, as a little decorative accent I chose a beige and white sculpture vase to be strategically placed on the nesting tables for effect.

I chose this twisting dark wooden table to bring some softness to the space and compliment the existing organic elements. As a final touch I chose a white and beige jute rug to tie together the white in the abstract canvas print and chairs the beige to blend with the wooden furniture.

For the second reading nook design I started with the below purple, yellow, blue, and green abstract canvas print. It's a bold print (for a bold person) and needs to be paired with subtle yet complimentary furniture in order to shine properly. To accomplish this I paired it with a boxy blue chair to bring out its blue accents  and then chose basic industrial-esq nesting side tables.

For larger spaces, I would recommend ordering two of the blue chair and placing the nesting tables in between.
