How to Create a Contemporary Bedroom with Colorful Artwork

I have a soft spot for contemporary bedrooms with bold colorful artwork. I like the straight lines. They somehow feel clean to me. But I don't like sterile contemporary...you know what I mean...the kind of contemporary design that feels like an alien ship landed and you feel like an experiment is going to be performed on you any minute!

The contemporary I like has color, lots of color....it's just presented in a simple form that is easy for the eye to take in. It leaves you feeling calmer, yet stylishly refreshed.

If that sounds like your cup of tea, keep on reading....this post might just be for you. And if you really like what you see, you're in luck because everything is available for purchase. Just click on the images.

Thoughts about this Create a Contemporary Bedroom with Colorful Artwork

I started with one of my most vibrant and clean-lined abstract canvas artwork pieces. It's blue, green, white, and purple shades really make an impact. I recommend using it as the secondary headboard for the platform bed below. The artwork is also available as a square if you prefer.

I paired it with this sleek dark wooden side table to balance out the artwork in this contemporary bedroom.

I chose this sleek low platform bed for its simplicity. I thought it would balance really well with the bold artwork. It's simplicity is almost a statement in itself! To marry its simplicity and the bold colors in the bedroom I chose a simply designed contemporary lamp with a bold blue base. I then chose super comfy Anew Edit duvet pillow cover. I love the clean feeling of a white duvet cover.

Next, I found the matching dresser to the contemporary nightstand above....which I love even more in the larger dresser version. I think however that its straight lines needed some organic flare so I picked out one of my most organic sculpture vases and I highly recommend placing it on top of the dresser as an inspirational piece. I think dressers are the perfect place for fine art. After all, they are one of the last places and first places that you visit when entering your bedroom....which means you'll be inspired every time you enter and leave.

To expand on the bold blues of the room, I chose this comfortable contemporary chair to place in the corner of the room.

To round out the room, I chose plain white blackout curtains (to maximize sleep), a sleek silver curtain rod, and a highly textured jute rug to bring a grounded feeling and mellow out the contemporary elements of the bedroom.
