How to Create a Blue Contemporary Bedroom with Funky Artwork
I just love a little bold funkiness in my home decor. No, I don't mean the smell in your garage. I mean those accent pieces that just kind of make your face contort like you're listening to a jazz album that is just funkalicious. That's what I wanted in this room and when I found the gold table lamp that you'll see in the post I knew the room was complete.
This modern bedroom is a celebration of blue, grey and gold. It has a coastal-feeling set in a contemporary setting....and it was a complete joy to design.

Thoughts about this Blue Bedroom with Funky Artwork
I used this blue and yellow abstract canvas print as the starting point for this contemporary bedroom. I wanted to create a bedroom that was coastal-feeling but completely modern in design. So when I came across the below gold lamp with bold circles coming out the sides I knew I was onto something. I LOVE the way that the lamp sets off the yellowish gold accents in the artwork.
Depending on your space, I recommend hanging the abstract artwork either over the bed or on a separate wall in a really large size. If you'd prefer to hang the abstract canvas print on a separate wall I recommend downloading my free eguide - How to Choose Art Sizes for Large Spaces from my freebies page.
I then chose this dark leather bed with a simple contemporary design. It has a nice masculine quality that balances well with the fluid feminine qualities of the artwork making it a great bedroom design for a married couple. I then found this simple contemporary side table with grey stained wood. And then because I love white bedding I chose a super soft high count duvet cover and pillow set.
To add a little boldness to this contemporary bedroom, I pick out this blue bed bench with sleek lines. I recommend placing it at the end of your bed if your room dimensions allow. It does a great job of setting off the blues in the artwork. I then chose this large gold circle mirror to go over the dresser for some added glam and to continue the circle theme in the room.
I then found the matching dresser to the nightstand which looks even more contemporary and sleek in the larger size. It's masculine undertones are nicely balanced by the circle mirror. To add some more softness to the room, I chose this small yellow and orange modern wall sculpture which would look great either above the dresser or on any thin walls (walls between doors) that may be in your space.
I then chose my favorite white blackout curtains to balance the white duvet cover and a sleek simple pewter curtain rod. Lastly, I chose a white textured rug to bring additional softness to the room.
This room design would go well in a mid-century home, a contemporary home, or in a loft apartment.
