How to Choose the Best Inspiring & Colorful Artwork for You

Artwork is one of the best ways to make a home or office feel aligned with who you really are ...... This is because it is so incredibly subjective and reflective of a person’s soul that it transforms a room from simply being a space to an experience.

Let's get start with the basics:

What Colors Speak to You?

What colors really speak to you?  Do you prefer pastels? Or more dramatic colors? Is there a color that really makes your day when you walk into a room and see it? If you're on the fence take a look through the follow colors and see which one gives you a surge of excitement...

Blue Artwork

How to Pair your Colorful Blue Artwork with Furniture

There’s a bit of a balancing act that goes into pairing bold blue artwork with furniture. Here are a couple of my favorite tips.

Have the largest piece of furniture by neutral. For blue artwork, white sofas and headboards look great.

Choose accents pieces that compliment the blue artwork

Make sure your rug doesn’t compete with your artwork. Choose solid rugs…I like ones with texture.

What Style of Art Speaks to You?

What style makes you feel the most positive emotions? What style would give you the most confidence and feel the most like yourself if you put it on the wall? What would make you feel bold and daring?

What Type of Artwork are you Looking for?

Are you looking for artwork for your walls? To decorate shelves? When most people think about artwork they think about paintings and prints but if you're looking for something a little out of the box consider wall sculpture or sculpture....it adds dimension (literally) to the room and can make you think about the world in a more creative way....I know it does that for me.

Sculpture is ideal for dining room tables, shelves, and tables that sit against walls, while wall sculpture is an excellent alternative to prints or paintings for an awkward wall (see below for ideas)

What Space do you Want to Make Colorful & Inspiring?

Large Spaces

Large spaces with large blank walls need large artwork. It brings these otherwise daunting spaces to life and leverages their best asset......the ability to make people feel expansive....like anything's possible. And large artwork in my opinion can make people think with bigger vision and increase creativity. To figure out what size print or painting will look best in your large space download my eguide - How to Choose Art Sizes for Large Spaces.

Small Spaces

Small spaces can really come alive with inspiring and colorful artwork especially ones that have been neglected. For small bathrooms or walls broken up by furniture think of the artwork like a focal point.....something that your eye goes straight to and that makes you smile. For ideas and a practical guide on what sizes work best in what spaces download my eguide - How to Choose Art Sizes for Small Spaces.

Awkward Spaces

Believe it or not awkward spaces can become little awesome focal points in your home. You just need to find artwork that is organic enough that it doesn't emphasis the oddness of the space but instead speaks for itself so the space becomes secondary. This can be accomplished through organic wall sculpture or organic canvas prints. Hi! This is Maggie of Maggie Minor Designs. I’m here today to talk to you about how to find the best inspiring and colorful artwork for you.

Before we dive in, I wanted to actually back up a bit because a lot of people ask me about artwork; how to pick artwork. They kind of get this deer-in-the-headlights look in their face [laughs] when I say that one of the best ways to get a more positive mindset and to make your home just feel like a home, is with artwork.

What I tell them is pick an emotion that you want to feel in that room and then find a piece of artwork that makes you feel that emotion. It’s really the simplest way and it kind of cuts through all the other outside stuff that we here and like it has to match this and you need to make sure everyone likes it and that it’s trendy. Because you know what? None of that really matters. What matters is that it makes you feel the way you want to feel in your home. That will make it the best piece of artwork for you.

In terms of finding artwork that is inspiring and colorful, I would—there’s a couple of great places to find artwork. A) You can find artwork in a gallery, so for instance, the artwork that’s behind me is actually original artwork. This is actually my aunt’s work, who is a professional landscape artist. That was easy access for me. My shopping center was in her living room.

But for those of you who don’t have easy access to find colorful artwork, I actually recommend the first step is to go online. There’s a lot of places where you can buy original artwork, such as Saatchi Art. You can also buy prints on Saatchi Art. Then you can go to Fine Art America, or Imagekind, which sell prints. You can select for what colors you like.

It will take time, but you just scroll through and take little breaks. You do not need to buy the art the same day that you start looking. Just give yourself time and when the right piece shows up, you will feel it in your body. You’ll go, “Man, I just love that!” It will get you excited. Like if you’re looking for something that’s inspiring, it will start to bubble up other ideas in your head. You’ll be like, “Oh my god, that makes me think of this, and this trip I want to take, and these people I want to meet.” It’ll get you really excited about doing other things. That is a sign that it’s inspiring. That’s what you want. That’s what’s going to make your life really awesome and make your artwork come to life and make your life come to life.

Those are my tips. Best of luck. As always, feel free to join my Facebook group and ask more questions. That’s what I’m here for. My Facebook group is called Home Décor for a Positive Mindset. Hope to see you in there and I hope you’re having a wonderful day. Bye!
